In case you haven’t heard by now… during the Sony Keynote at TGS, Square Enix announced that they are remaking Final Fantasy X for both the PSVita and the PS3 to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of it’s release (yeah, you read that right… 10 YEARS!). While FFX was a very good game, and the first to FF title to have full voice dialogue, I can’t help but feel that Square is kind of missing the big picture of what their fans really want. Thousands of people, myself included, have been clamoring for an FF7 remake for years and they again seem to be skipping right over it. Whether their afraid they can’t capture lightning in a bottle again or are secretly building the game in a basement 15 stories below the earths surface, Square still refuses to give a full statement that doesn’t deny but hint at a possible release at the same time. What do you think readers? Are you excited about this release? Should it have been FF7 instead? Should HD remakes of classics just end now? Let us know in the comments below.
I dont think a remake of X is needed sure it was the first PS2 FF game but there are PS1 FF games. I personally am not a huge fan of the “HD remake” trend going on but if you are going to do it why not do it with a game the people actually want. I mean I am a FF7 nut like almost every other RPG fan out there and I can guarantee that I (and Im sure the other Billion out there) would buy the Damn remake of 7 even if it sucked. Now will I buy the remake of X….probably not.
I agree, I’m not too sure that I would buy it. For the Vita, MAYBE, but that’s only if I magically start doing a lot of travelling and need a 30hr RPG for the road. I will most likely not buy it for the ps3 though, unless they start adding in superfantastical extras to the game. FF7 is the one that needs to be remade, and I don’t understand what Squares problem is. They got everyone’s hopes up with that White Engine Tech Demo and now NOTHING!
Yeah, I have to agree with you guys. I mean, a couple of the classics from the “Way-back” machine redone in HD (Monkey Island and Earthworm Jim) were kinda cool because they were cheaper than a full game, and the contrast in technology just makes the nostalgia that much better. But as far as most of the Final Fantasy games go, the good money was on doing ports. I’ve been teased for like 5 years now with the HD’ified intro scene from FFVII, but what I paid money for was the downloadable version for PS3 and PSP. With tech where it is now, port it again to my phone, and you’d probably get another $10 out of me. In terms of FFVII especially, the tech was groundbreaking, but the story, the immersion, the soundtrack, etc, etc, is what created such a legion of fans that will pretty much rush out to by anything that Square Enix makes at this point. If you want to see what it would look like in HD, just go by Advent Children at Walmart for $15, sit back and relax. And then if you get too nostalgic, you can hit the bonus features and watch the original FFVII story, from actual gameplay. 🙂
You mean go out and buy Advent Children AGAIN ha ha ^_^ You bring a good point, some remakes are totally worth it, especially when they are way cheaper, But should we support all of these HD remakes every time? Yeah I would have to say no as well. (but seriously FF7 give it to meeeee)
