New comparison screens were dropped by Kotaku, daring you to tell the difference between the PS3 and 360 versions of FFXIII-2. Now, while I may be known as a PS3 fanboy here, I am also a person who is willing to give the 360 a fair shake when due. From these pictures I can deduce that one of 2 things is true; either Square has dumbed down the graphics of the PS3 version so that the 360 doesn’t look like it’s deformed twin, or they have actually gotten better at writing the code for the 360. For the sake of gamers everywhere, I hope is’t the latter. I can’t tell much difference in the character modeling, which is great, but you can definitely see a LOT of artifacting in the backgrounds of the 360 captures. While to me, the PS3 still looks better than the 360, this is a big improvement over the graphics of the 360 version of XIII. Now if only Square could figure out a way to override the 360 to read blu-ray so it could all be on one disc. Click the READ MOAR to see for yourself.

The truth of the matter is that the xbox is easier to code for, bar none. Hence why sqenix made all of those xbox only RPGs. Granted they were garbage so nothing really missed, but its only a matter of time till they make something amazing and it will only be on the xbox. The playstation is the better system but Xbox has made it easier to work with, some are even claiming its betamax all over again… just with less porn.
I’ve heard the Beta analogy before and always find it funny because Sony was the big pusher for Beta. However, the analogy is wrong. If anything PS3 should be the Beta max as it was the format that actually put out the best quality. Beta looked way better than VHS and lasted longer but VHS was cheaper and that’s why they decided to go with it. It appears that Sony knows how to win those wars now though, as they thoroughly decimated HDDVD with the better Blu-Ray. You would think that if the 360 was easier to code for, then more games would look better than the ps3 though. Pretty much every time that I see a comparison between 2 version though, the PS3 clearly looks better than the 360. Cliffy B said in September that they have reached the hardware capacity of the 360 and now any improvements made will be in optimizing code. Thankfully the PS3 still has some life left in it (we shall see if that helps or hinders with the coming next-gen consoles).
Colors and textures do still look more organic on the PS3 than the 360 though.
Like I said the PS3 IS the better system, but time = money and if it takes more time to make a game really shine on PS3 them most companies are not going to do it, especially if they are wanting to have an xbox port anyway.
