ID Software finally showed off the next installment of Doom, which they promised to run at 1080p at 60 frames per second on PC (of course it will), PS4 (possible), and Xbox One (I’ll believe it when I see it). Doom promises to go back to its roots, to the dawn of the FPS genre. No regenerating health or restrictions on the number weapons you can carry here. Reloading? Pure madness! Double jump? Of course you can do that! Oh and cover? Who needs it, this is a classic FPS reborn, where run and gun is the name of the game, and cover is for pussies.
Classic weapons and enemies return as you fight off hell on…Mars. Blast your way through Hellknights, revenants, cyberdemons, and mancubii with your handy chainsaw, double-barrel shotgun, plasma rifle, and when you need some more firepower, a rocket launcher, just to name a few. Execution sequences are included in the game for those close encounters, but on the reverse is equally gory death scenes, should you not survive.
I for one believe they can pull this off, having played Wolfenstien: The New Order, which featured similar gameplay mechanics. In a genre that’s controlled by games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Halo, it’s nice to get back to basics every now and again.
They don’t have any gameplay videos available yet? That trailer is oldddd
The gameplay was in person only at Quakecon, so us pitiful peasants have to wait still
ahhh gargabe… I’m sure someone snapped something on their phone, hopefully something comes out today
