Milestone, creators of the MotoGP and MXGP series, has just released the first dev diary for their new game Gravel. Gravel is an off-road racing game set to release at the beginning of 2018. This is the first game where they’ve used the Unreal engine, and this dev diary explains what that has meant in terms of development of this new IP. You can watch the dev diary below where they explain the different areas impacted, from art to race design.
As you can see from the dev diary, they’ve been able to create the maps from actual satellite data to map the terrain. They can also vary where the Sun is based on whether or not you are at the equator or the far north. This game reminds me a little bit Baja: Edge of Control, which isn’t a bad thing. I played a lot of Dirt and Baja while I was in college. That is when I wasn’t going to off road races or taking my Ranger out to the local trails. I’m looking forward to eventually getting my hands on Gravel.
