Sony’s Gold Wireless Stereo Headset Review.

First let me assure you and say that I am in no way being compensated by Sony or any other company for writing this review.  That being said, the Gold Wireless Headset from Sony is quite possibly the best wireless gaming headset I have ever had the pleasure of resting on my head.

How does it Sound?

Like angels fucking, NEXT QUESTION! … Seriously though, for the cost ($99), you are not going to find a better sounding headset with 7.1 virtual surround sound, built in bass boost, customizable levels, microphone, and a whammy bar…  Admittedly I am not a huge audiophile and I’m sure its not the absolute best sound out there, but come on, for a hundo you are not going to find anything better.

How does it feel?

Extremely comfortable, even through marathon gaming sessions I rarely felt that typical headset pressure as there seems to be ample padding, even wearing Glasses didn’t have much of an impact on the comfort or sound quality, however I do have thin wire frame glasses.  Its also one of the first headsets that seems to wrap around the back of my ear, almost like my ears are going into a specialty ear-pocket.  The ear-pockets feel weird at first but once you get the feel for em they feel like ear-homes, on the negative side  I’m going to assume that come the summer time I may have to take them off to let my ears cool off.

How long does the battery last?

On a full charge the headphones lasted 8 and a half hours with a beep warning when your power started to get low (with about 15 minuets remaining).  Yes, I actually did play games for 8 and a half hours solid, seriously, I didn’t even eat lunch or get out of bed, it was a great day.  Since that day I have been using the headset in 2-3 hour intervals and at that rate I seem to last about a week before receiving my 15 minuet warning.  Obviously using the bass boost will most likely lower the time, but I never once felt in need of any extra bass, sorry Skrillex.

What are some awesome features that I may not know about?

  • There is a companion App that you can download for free on the PS4.  The App isn’t anything really special but it does come with a digital sound level and preset “modes” depending on the type of game you are playing, FPS, Horror yadda yadda.
  • The set up is super easy, just plug in the USB dongle into your PS4 or PS3 and boom the system automatically sets all sound to play through the headset.  It even works on PC and the Vita.
  • The headset comes with a sleek little dust bag to put the headset in while you are not using it, I never would have thought about it but having one is awesome and it makes me feel special *double chin awkward smile*
  • Lastly the box/packaging is epic as hell,  When I opened this bad boy I felt like I was opening a collectors edition or some super secret spy gear, I don’t know why this got me excited but I made damn sure I kept the box.

That’s it, if you read an entire review about headsets you might as well go out and buy one especially if you have a wife/gf/bf/spagetti monster that goes to be earlier than you and you are tired of playing games at low volumes.  Just remember that you yelling “BULL SHIT!” because that fucking camper killed you with a lucky ass shot from across the map, is NOT going to be contained within the headset.
