Moar download games for the summer of Jason, trying to clear out as many as possible before Borderlands 2 comes out and dominates my life. At the same time I am trying my best to get Dark Souls out of the way and that is hair pulling-ly trudging along. Anyway aside from wanting to kill myself this past week I had some time to explore these two down-loadable games. Check-check-check-checkitout.
Outland. The game is well created and you can tell the art direction was there I wish that this game came out before Limbo as that would keep me from thinking “boy this has a look similar to Limbo” but I can get past it. At its heart, Outland is a platformer mixed with the attack/color switching aspect of Ikaruga. Most of the time in Outland is spent exploring the vast world and collecting power-ups ala Metroid style, however, every once in a while the combat gets pretty technical and hectic and can end in some frustrating deaths but the over all beauty of the game and some pretty epic boss battles makes Outland an enjoyable ride for anyone that is looking for a solid platformer with a little bit of a twist.
BloodRayne: Betrayal. Now I have never been a fan of the BloodRayne series, just not a huge fan of vampire games/lore (the only vampire I like is Blade, but who doesn’t) So I might be a bit biased. But the gorgeous animation and style of BloodRayne: Betrayal pulled me in. At its core BloodRayne is your typical arcade brawler. The story line is pretty shallow but not much is needed, the controls are tight and responsive and the sprite animations do not disappoint although they do get slightly repetitive. Most of the time the game is trying to get you to do everything as quickly as possible (like most arcade brawlers) the quicker you can get through a certain area the better your score. Unfortunately this ends up being a spam fest once you find a combo that works really well for you. If you are a big fan of the BloodRayne series then Betrayal may have enough for you but personally I’ll pass this one up to play more Outland.
